The Episcopal Church of South Sudan Environmental Network visited Juba Girls Secondary School

Friday, June 7, 2024 – the Episcopal Church of South Sudan Environmental Network visited Juba Girls Secondary School Yesterday (June 6, 2024) as the network advances efforts in building the capacities of young people to battle the climate crisis.

The continuing campaign led by devoted volunteers, spins under the theme: “Harnessing the Potential of Kids/Youth on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption to Protect the World We Live in.”

It aims to create awareness, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility among young individuals to actively participate in combating the effects of climate change. Throughout the campaign, the team uses engaging and compelling materials such as banners, flyers, and illustrations to reinforce the message.

During the interaction, students at Juba Girls revealed extraordinary support for environmental conservation. They conveyed overwhelming excitement and passion, highlighting South Sudan youth’s readiness to solve problems caused by the Climate Crisis.

Buoyed by the success of this ongoing endeavor, the ECSS Environmental Network envisages a broader outreach, planning to extend the campaign to more than 100 schools across South Sudan’s ten states and administrative areas, potentially reaching over 3000 students from both primary and secondary levels. Moreover, with an anticipated necessary backing, the network aims to establish and sustain environmental clubs within schools. These clubs will facilitate activities like tree planting, briquette making, waste management, and the promotion of water and sanitation practices.

Through this investment in youth, the ECSS Environmental Network is laying a solid and sustainable framework to confront the climate crisis not only in South Sudan but also on a broader scale.
