Faith-driven environmental action for a greener, healthier, and more resilient South Sudan.

About ECSSEN

The ECSS Environmental Network (ECSSEN) is the environmental and agriculture arm of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, established to respond to the urgent environmental and climate challenges facing communities across the country.

Founded in March 2023 by The Most Rev. Dr. Justin Badi Arama, Archbishop and Primate of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, the Network seeks to mobilize communities, churches, institutions, and development partners to become responsible stewards of God’s creation.

Through faith-inspired action, environmental conservation, climate resilience initiatives, and sustainable livelihood programs, ECSSEN works to improve lives while protecting the environment for future generations.

Responding to the Climate Challenge

South Sudan continues to face increasing environmental challenges including:

  • Climate change
  • Flooding
  • Drought
  • Deforestation
  • Land degradation
  • Food insecurity
  • Loss of biodiversity

These challenges threaten livelihoods, agricultural production, public health, and community stability.

ECSSEN was established to provide faith-based leadership and practical solutions that help communities adapt, recover, and build resilience.

Who We Are
as an Organization

Community-Driven

We work closely with communities, churches, youth groups, women groups, schools, and local leaders.

Action-Oriented

We combine faith, science, and practical interventions to address environmental and livelihood challenges.

Faith-Based

We believe that caring for creation is a sacred responsibility entrusted to humanity by God.

The Green Anglicans Movement

At the center of ECSSEN’s work is the Green Anglicans Movement, a faith-based environmental initiative that encourages churches and communities to actively participate in environmental stewardship.

The movement inspires individuals to:

  • Plant and protect trees
  • Promote environmental awareness
  • Adopt sustainable lifestyles
  • Protect biodiversity
  • Strengthen climate resilience
  • Advocate for environmental justice

Together, we are building a culture of environmental responsibility rooted in faith and action.
